Acupuncture is a method of supporting the body/mind systems in their own natural healing processes. In other words, acupuncture helps the body heal itself. Originating in China over 2000- 5000 years ago, acupuncture forms a part of a rational, personalized, evidence-based system of healthcare. Worldwide, well over one million healthcare practitioners use acupuncture to ease the suffering and restore the health and well-being of their patients. KEEP READING >
You will arrive at Y Wellness, our calm, professional integrative clinic and, after filling out necessary paperwork, be escorted to Dr Josh’s treatment rooms for your consult. There, he will begin the interview process to get as much information as possible and answer any questions you may have. Next, Dr Josh will perform Medical Pulse Diagnosis, a holistic Chinese Medicine assessment of the internal stress your body is holding that contribute to your disease process. For your pain condition, he will also perform a more conventional physical assessment to determine your orthopedic diagnosis. This helps determine your prognosis and rehab requirements. Finally, after your questions are answered and a treatment plan is offered, we will begin the acupuncture treatment on the first visit. He will explain what he is doing and what to expect. His gentle, caring approach is as relaxing as possible, facilitating the body’s healing space to maximize stress release and efficacy. Overall, the experience is pleasant. Your body will let you know that it is healing, relaxing and strengthening! Afterwards, you may be shown how to perform self-care and/or given herbs if needed.

Does Acupuncture Work for Pain?
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), a number of studies suggest that acupuncture works particularly well on chronic pain such as back and neck pain; knee pain; and headaches. It often reduces the timing and severity of tension headaches and can prevent migraines. “Therefore,” the NIH concludes, “acupuncture appears to be a reasonable option for people with chronic pain to consider.” A review article that appeared in Practical Pain Management found that pain relief with acupuncture comes from inactivating the source of pain by modulating endorphin levels. They also reported on the benefits of acupuncture for temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).1
